| RANDOM JOURNEY - May 2005 Gest's first ever public performance took place on Saturday May 14th 2005 atThe Media Point, Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff. Since Gest was formed nearly a year ago this event served both as an opportunity to show a wider audience what we're about, and as an early 1st birthday celebration. The night consisted of three very different pieces, exploring themes as varied as speed dating, sea monkeys and serial killers featuring performances by Gest students and other local actors...
The One by Kim Lloyd Catherine Earnshaw and Mad Max meet in a wine bar and discuss the pitfalls of modern singledom
"You don't really want to know if I like Picasso or Pinter... and who the hell cares what my favourite colour is? You just want to know if I'm the one"
Random Journey by Claire Desmond It just goes to show you can throw together a theatre piece about anything - even sea monkeys
"Because it's not the destination, but thejourney that counts"
Sound Sleepers by Darren Purvis and Claire Desmond The actions may be a little drastic, but the motives were based in kindness
"Providing rest, comfort and conclusion to those who need it most"
The response from the audience was incredibly positive (we like to think that wasn't just down to the free wine!) and the quality of the performances and the writing were praised very highly. Choice quotes from the punters included 'That was proper!' and 'I was genuinely scared" and we were also gratified to see several people doing the sea monkey dance at the end (Again, that may have been the wine!) We're planning more performances soon so watch the 'news' page.
Whether you're a past or present Gest student or even if you don't fancy any committing to any training at the moment, feel free to get in touch if you'd like to be invloved in a future performance, either as a performer or crew member. | |
